A BookThatApp alternative that is simpler to run
BookThatApp is one of the longest-standing Shopify booking apps and covers tours, rentals, classes and recurring subscriptions with deep configuration. Booking Slot trades some of that breadth for a setup you can finish in an afternoon and rules that hold on every plan.

Configurable versus opinionated
BookThatApp is one of the longest-standing booking apps on Shopify and it shows in both directions. It covers tours, rentals, classes, recurring subscriptions and a wide range of booking models, with deep configuration under almost every part of it. If your business has an unusual shape, there is a decent chance BTA can be configured into that shape.
That configurability is the trade. Options take time to understand, and the apps that can be anything generally need you to decide what they are before they do anything useful.
Booking Slot is opinionated instead. Setup is a four-step checklist with presets for salon, clinic, class, court, tour, rental and consultation. Choosing a preset fills in sensible buffers, slot behaviour and defaults for that trade, which you then adjust. Most merchants are taking a test booking within the hour.
An app that can do anything asks you to decide everything. That is a fair trade only when you need the range.
What the presets actually set
The presets are not cosmetic. They set the behaviour that is wrong by default for a trade and expensive to discover later.
The salon preset gives services buffers by default, because colour needs clean-down and most salon owners do not think about that until a client is sitting in reception. The court preset sets hourly intervals and no buffer, because a court does not need resetting between groups. The class preset turns on capacity and seat counting. The rental preset puts turnaround time after every hire.
All of it is adjustable afterwards. The point is that the first thing you see is close to right for your trade rather than a blank form with forty options.
- Seven trade presets: salon, clinic, class, court, tour, rental, consultation
- Buffers, intervals and capacity set appropriately by trade
- Four-step setup checklist rather than a configuration manual
- Everything adjustable once the defaults are in
Scope, where BTA is wider
Being straight about this saves you an install. BookThatApp covers rental models, recurring subscription bookings and complex multi-item scenarios that Booking Slot does not attempt.
Booking Slot has no multi-day bookings, so a Friday-to-Monday hire cannot be one booking. No recurring bookings, so a standing weekly slot is booked session by session. No waitlists. No multi-location. Calendar sync is Google only, on Growth, with no Outlook, iCal or Zoom integration.
If your business runs on recurring bookings or multi-day hire, BTA is the better app today and that is not a close call. Both are on Booking Slot's roadmap, which is not the same as being in the product.
What Booking Slot does instead
Three things, done properly, rather than everything done adequately.
Correctness on every plan. Conflict checking, transactional holds, buffers and staff time off are on the free plan exactly as on Pro. Two people taking the same slot produce one success and one immediate refusal, before checkout. Plans limit resources and volume, never the rules.
The counter and the website as one system. The POS screen calls the same availability and hold endpoints as the product page, with no sync step between them, so the two cannot disagree. Included from Growth at thirty-nine ninety-nine a month.
Reminders that give the slot back. Every text and email carries a link to the booking, so a customer who cannot make it moves or cancels themselves within your cutoff rather than simply not arriving. SMS allowance is bundled rather than charged per message: fifty on Starter, two hundred and fifty on Growth, a thousand on Pro.
Support, and which to pick
BookThatApp has an established support team with years of accumulated knowledge behind it, which for a complex configuration is a genuine advantage.
Booking Slot's support is the developer, in Cheshire, on UK working days. An email gets an answer from the person who wrote the code rather than a first-line script, which is faster for anything technical and slower at three in the morning. There is no phone line. That is the honest version of what a small UK software business offers, and it is worth weighing rather than glossing over.
Choose BookThatApp if you need rentals, recurring bookings, multi-day periods or its integration list, or if you want an established vendor with a support department. Choose Booking Slot if you are a service business that wants to be taking bookings this afternoon, has a counter as well as a website, and wants the scheduling rules to hold on every plan including the free one.
